HUNT FINED
Update: Karmichael Hunt's copped more punishment from the Reds and the ARU, after pleading guilty to cocaine possession today...
He'll have to cough up a $30k fine and cop a 6-week ban from playing for the Reds. He'll return in Round 8.
Hunt has also stood down as Vice Captain of the Reds.
Earlier:
Reds vice-captain Karmichael Hunt has been fined $2500 and had no conviction recorded, after pleading guilty to cocaine possession.
The court heard he bought a total of 12.5 grams of cocaine on four occasions between September 1 and October 3 last year.
Hunt's lawyer described it as a "misguided post-season celebration" and said he was taking ownership of his problems by pleading guilty.
Hunt had some high-profile support, with Broncos coach Wayne Bennett writing a reference letter which was read out during sentencing. In it Bennett wrote "one of Hunt's best features is that he's willing to own his problems and not blame others."
Meanwhile Beau Falloon and Jamie Dowling, two of the Gold Coast Titans caught up in the same bust, had their cases heard this morning. They'll be back in court on May 8.
