Frank Ocean's Album Of The Year-nominated Channel Orange was released in July 2012. The set features contributions from GRAMMY winners André 3000, John Mayer and Pharrell Williams, among others.
"Gump," like a lot of songs off "channel ORANGE," seems to be about unrequited love. And it's but one of several film-inspired tracks on the album. Ocean is a great synthesizer of pop culture -- a gifted songwriter. But let's not overlook his performing skills: he's nailing this, climbing up and down the vocal register.
Ocean scores points in the R&B, soul and rap departments (he's part of the Odd Future collective). He's one of tonight's top nominees, with six GRAMMY chances.
GRAMMY Fact: Adele won Album Of The Year at the 54th GRAMMYs in 2012 for 21.
Characteristically artistic performance by Frank Ocean.
Album of the Year: Is Ocean going to take it?
Carrie Underwood is here. Let's ask her something.
Mumford & Sons! The crowd is on its feet.
Carrie Underwood tells me "It' always fun to come to The GRAMMYs. I feel really happy right. now. My performance went off really well."
Great heartfelt acceptance.
And that's it for awards tonight! But it wouldn't be the GRAMMYs if we didn't have a massive closing performance to look forward to. Stay tuned.
Here's what I'm anticipating: multi-genre mayhem. There's still plenty of reason to be on the edge of your seat! While you're perched on the edge, though, you know what to do: send over your thoughts/impressions/reactions.
We talk about her special dress. "I wanted to try something new and I think it totally worked," Carrie Underwood tells me. I agree. #GRAMMYs
Whose music are you going to listen a little more closely to after tonight? Who was unfamiliar to you?
Will Underwood ever venture out in pop? "My place is in the country world," she tells me. "I love country music. It's where my heart is."
Thinking back: Frank Ocean's stripey sweatband was a good touch.
